“Your mother’s endurance is not a job description for your wife” — Man tells men

A man has sparked widespread reactions on social media after stating that a wife should not be expected to endure the same hardships her husband’s mother experienced.
The man made the statement in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), where he challenged the practice of comparing modern wives with mothers who raised children under difficult circumstances.

Man questions expectations placed on wives
He argued that a mother’s ability to raise several children without assistance should not automatically become a standard for her son’s wife.
He wrote: “You keep telling your wife that your mother raised 6 children without help.
Have you asked your mother whether she would choose that arrangement again?
“She never complained” is not the same as “she was happy.”
Your mother’s endurance is not a job description for your wife.”
Social media users react
The post generated mixed reactions, with several users agreeing that women should not be expected to repeat the struggles endured by previous generations.
Ebun wrote: “Your mother’s strength should be appreciated, not used as a standard to measure your wife. If she had the choice, she might have wanted help too.
Marriage is supposed to make life easier for both partners, not recreate the struggles of the previous generation.”
Masculus wrote: “I’m trying to understand the use of the word “raised.” When people use, “raised?” are they implying that raising a child is primarily the woman’s responsibility? Because most of the time, the responsibility ultimately falls on the shoulders of the man, too.”
Lily_Lana wrote: “Who said she never complained? I am so sure she did complain but nobody listened.”
Maverick wrote: “This! My mum did all alone because Dad died when we were quite young. Now I’m making sure my future wife will never ever experience that.”
Petrina wrote: “Some guys seem to think God gave it to them hard and they want to see women suffer. Throughout time, they have made women suffer.
Yes, just because many women were forced to have 12 to 15 children & handle it on their own, often being cheated on & abused, did not make it right.”
Lefty wrote: “Ask his sister, if he has any, what the mother’s life lessons are. Only a daughter can really tell what the mother’s life was like.”
