“You want me to pay my own bill after inviting me out?” – Lady blasts man over Dutch date proposal

A Nigerian lady has sparked debate online after revealing that she blocked a man who invited her on a date after he suggested they split the bill.

According to a TikTok video shared by @, she explained that she had been talking to the man for about a month before he asked her out.

She agreed and even recommended a nice restaurant, only for him to ask how she felt about going on a Dutch date, where each person pays for what they order.

In her words, she said:

“I was on my own. You insisted on us going for a date, and all of a sudden you’re introducing Dutch dates. If I wanted to go out and spend my money, I wouldn’t need a random man to take me out. I would simply settle myself.”

The lady said she couldn’t understand why she would spend money getting dressed and looking good for a man who still expected her to pay her own bill on a date he initiated.

She also expressed relief that he mentioned the idea before the outing, saying she immediately blocked and deleted his number because she had no interest in such an arrangement.

“I’ll leave my house, prepare, do my hair, lashes and everything, then you’ll tell me you want a Dutch date? If you cannot sort the bill on a first date, what exactly are you bringing to the table? Thank God he asked before the date because I blocked and deleted his number immediately,” she added.

Her video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that whoever initiates a date should pay, while others argued that there is nothing wrong with suggesting a Dutch date.
