“You should’ve told me it was finishing” — Lady fumes after colleague exhausts 40GB office hotspot

A lady has narrated how a simple act of goodwill at her workplace turned into an expensive digital shock after a colleague allegedly drained her mobile data without consent.

The incident, which occurred at about 8:47am in March 2026, began when the colleague asked to use her laptop hotspot for “just five minutes” after his personal data subscription ran out.

Trusting him, she agreed, unaware of what would follow before the end of the morning.

By 11am, she said she received an alert from her network provider informing her that her 40GB data bundle had been completely exhausted.

Alarmed, she immediately checked her system activity and discovered that the colleague had been downloading multiple seasons of a television series in high definition during office hours.

From a small favour to a costly shock

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw he was downloading seasons one to seven of a series in HD. This was in the office, on my data, after he told me it would be for just five minutes.”

She added that the situation left her stunned, especially considering the rising cost of internet subscriptions and the professional setting in which it happened.

“Excuse me?” — Reaction sparks office debate

When I complained, he simply said, ‘Ah ah, you should’ve told me it was finishing na’. At that point, I was speechless. How was I supposed to know?

The lady recalled a similar incident in 2022, when another colleague exceeded agreed data usage but later apologised and compensated her.

This time, she said, the response highlighted growing concerns about boundaries, accountability, and digital etiquette in shared workspaces.
