“You need to be wicked to escape poverty” – Man spark online debate with bold advice
A Nigerian man has sparked intense reactions online after sharing his controversial opinion on what it takes to escape poverty.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he explained that individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds may need to adopt a mindset that prioritises personal growth over emotional responsibilities.
“For everyone coming from a poor background, at a level, for at least five years of your life, you need a level of wickedness.
You’ll see people that you love suffering, and you won’t do anything about it, even when you can. That’s just the way to come out of poverty; it’s the way anybody can come out,” he said.
He further stressed that breaking out of poverty sometimes requires making tough decisions, even when it involves distancing oneself from people and situations that may slow down progress.
The man added that focusing fully on personal development during that period is what helps many individuals build stability before they can eventually support others.
His statement has since generated mixed reactions online. One user wrote, “This one harsh but e get small truth.” Another added, “Some people actually did this and it worked for them.”
