Xavi Simons takeover Son’s No.7 shirt at Tottenham after £51.8m move from Leipzig

Tottenham have officially handed Xavi Simons the No.7 shirt following his £51.8m transfer from RB Leipzig, a number previously worn by club legend Son Heung-min.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international, who can operate as both a No.10 and a left winger, said he was “really happy” to join Spurs and promised to bring “flair, hard work, and discipline” to the team.

Speaking to the club’s media, Simons added: “It’s a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away this was the right place for me. I will do everything I can to win for the team and the fans.”

Manager Thomas Frank welcomed the arrival, describing Simons as a “great addition” who already has experience at the highest level despite his age.

“Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the No.10 position and left wing. He has a great eye for unlocking defences and will fit into a hardworking squad,” Frank said.

Simons is expected to make his debut in a London derby against West Ham at the London Stadium on September 13, after the international break.
