“Wizkid said he’s the new Fela; has he been to prison before?” – Portable

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has stirred fresh reactions online after openly criticizing Wizkid over claims linking the Grammy-winning artiste to late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
It is no news that the sensational singer, Wizkid recently had a clash with Seun Kuti over the ‘New Fela’ title.

Some fans had described Wizkid as the new Fela, a title which didn’t sit well with Seun. However Wizkid had claimed to be better than his father.

In a recent outburst, Portable dismissed the comparison, arguing that Fela’s legacy was built on activism, personal sacrifice, and direct confrontation with authority.

He questioned whether Wizkid’s career reflects similar experiences, particularly in terms of facing hardship and persecution for speaking against the system.

He emphasized his background and struggles as proof of authenticity, insisting that popularity and wealth alone are not enough to place anyone on the same pedestal as Fela.
He said …
“You be this, you be that, that one na for your pocket. Me sef I be Biggie man. Do you give people food? I give people, you say you big pass Fela for where. You say you’re the new Fela; has he been to prison before? I’ve been to prison multiple times. I’m bigger than Wizkid.”
