Why South-East must back Tinubu for second term — Dave Umahi

Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi has said President Bola Tinubu deserves 90% of the South-East votes in the 2027 elections, citing fair treatment in the allocation of road infrastructure projects.

Responding to claims of marginalisation on social media, Umahi dismissed the allegations as false and misleading. He said Tinubu has deliberately ensured the equitable distribution of infrastructure projects across all regions to unite Nigerians and restore hope.

Highlighting ongoing and completed projects in the South-East, Umahi revealed that the region is fully included in Tinubu’s third legacy project, covering a 465km stretch across Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Abuja, with ₦445.8 billion already awarded and ₦108 billion paid so far.

Tinubu’s road projects in South-East

  • The 2nd Niger Bridge access roads in Delta and Anambra States (₦146bn and ₦176bn respectively)
  • The Enugu-Onitsha Road (₦202bn under MTN Tax Credit, plus ₦150bn for the remaining section)
  • The Enugu–Port Harcourt Road, Enugu–Abakaliki Road, Afikpo–Abia–Imo Road, and several others.

Umahi accused critics of twisting facts and inciting the public, urging the South-East to reject misinformation and instead support Tinubu’s administration for its fairness and commitment to the region’s development.

He concluded by saying the South-East must engage in national unity politics, avoid sentiments, and support Tinubu’s full 8-year tenure, affirming that, “One day, we will be number one, but not in 2027.”
