Teddie was the younger of the twin sisters Babs (Babette Patricia Chinery) and Joy (Joycelyn Victoria Barbara Chinery). Her parents, Victoria (née Miles) and George Chinery, were former music hall performers known as Coram and Mills The Guardian. The family then relocated to Northamptonshire during World War II.

Career

During World War II, they rose to prominence as the “Bonnie Babies” in an Ovaltine advertising campaign. After leaving their occupations as typists in 1945, they began making regular radio appearances, and in 1947, they appeared in the Pathé film short The Guardian.

They later supported Bob Hope and Danny Kaye at the London Palladium (The Guardian). They signed with Columbia Records in 1951 and became known as The Beverley Sisters.

Their close harmonies, synchronized sequinned dresses, and wholesome yet whimsical image helped them become a household brand in the UK. They starred in the BBC’s Those Beverley Sisters TV series, recorded over 250 songs, and had successes like I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Little Drummer Boy, and Little Donkey.

They were the highest-paid female entertainers in Britain for more than two decades, according to The Telegraph. In 2002, Guinness World Records recognized them as the world’s longest-surviving vocal ensemble with an unchanged lineup.

Teddie, Babs, and Joy received an MBE in 2006 for their contributions to music. They also appeared at big national occasions, such as the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
