Who is Henry Nwosu? Life and Legacy of the Super Eagles Ex Manager

Henry Nwosu (June 14, 1963 – March 14, 2026) was a Nigerian football manager and player.
Henry Nwosu Biography
Henry Onyemanze Nwosu spent his career with New Nigeria Bank (NNB) in Benin City and African Continental Bank (ACB) in Lagos.
He also represented ASEC Mimosas FC of the Ivory Coast and Racing FC Bafoussam of Cameroon.
Nwosu was the youngest member of Nigeria’s 1980 African Nations Cup-winning side, and he scored Nigeria’s only goal at the 1980 Summer Olympics.

He also competed in the 1982, 1984, and 1988 tournaments, placing second in the latter two. His final game for Nigeria came in 1991.
Nwosu was an assistant to former Eagles colleague Samson Siasia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when Nigeria won a silver medal. He assisted Onigbinde in leading the Super Eagles to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
On September 27, 2008, Nwosu was named coach of the Nigerian Under-17 squad. However, he was fired from his position in April 2009 due to a spate of bad results in preparation for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Nwosu was hired as the coach of Union Bank F.C. in August. He later became the coach of Abeokuta club Gateway United F.C. in October 2013. Henry Nwosu passed away on March 14, 2026, at the age of 62.
