Who is DCP Anthony? The New Force Public Relations Officer

Anthony Placid psc(+), mni (December 2, 1970) is a Nigeria Police Officer and the new Force Public Relations Officer. He enrolled in the Nigeria Police Academy in 1996 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was inducted into the Force on August 15, 1998.

Following IGP Olatunji Disu’s swearing-in, the Nigeria Police Force named Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

Placid was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and is from Mbiokporo Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and law studies at the National Open University of Nigeria, Calabar Centre.

Career

Placid was appointed as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy in 1996 and was commissioned in August 1998. He has extensive international training, having undergone United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training (POST) and earning certifications in Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection.

He also finished the UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya. Placid has worked as Chief of Training at the African Union Mission in Sudan, Head of Training and Development at the United Nations Mission in Darfur, and an African Union Election Security Adviser.

His domestic postings have included Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi States, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) in Abia State, and Deputy in Charge of Administration and Finance at Zone 3 Headquarters in Yola.

Placid graduated from the Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025.

He was elevated to Deputy Commissioner of Police on June 7, 2024, and assigned to the Finance & Administration Department Zone 3, Yola, before being posted to the same Department in Cross River in January 2026.

Personal Life and Interest

He is married and has children. He enjoys listening to music and playing football, basketball, table tennis, and badminton. DCP Anthony Placid offers decades of experience, worldwide exposure, and intellectual depth to his role as Force PRO, having served in UN and AU missions, held various key roles, and trained at NIPSS. He succeeds Benjamin Hundeyin as the public face of the Nigeria Police Force.
