“What made me cry was when they said my husband isn’t man enough to father a child” — Chef Amaka

Celebrity chef Amaka has shared an emotional account of how being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) shortly after her marriage affected her health, appearance and emotional well-being.

Speaking during an interview, Amaka revealed that she discovered the condition about three months after marrying her husband when she missed her menstrual period and sought medical attention.

She explained that doctors diagnosed her with PCOS, after which she began experiencing physical changes, including weight gain and the development of a broader upper body.

According to Amaka, the changes attracted harsh comments from members of the public, with some claiming she looked older than her husband.

She said some people even accused her of being the dominant partner in the marriage, alleging that she physically abused her husband.

Amaka disclosed that the most painful remarks were suggestions that her husband was not capable of fathering a child because they had not welcomed a baby.

Reflecting on the experience, she said the assumptions were deeply hurtful, stressing that the comments were based solely on the fact that she had not conceived at the time.

“I just got married to my husband June. Three months into the marriage, I didn’t see my period. Then we went to the hospital.

“They told me I had PCOS. Now the syndrome, I started having upper body structure. Then I started adding weights.

“When I and my husband stand, I looked way older. I was told I am the man of the house, that I beat my husband. What made me cry was when they said my husband is not man enough to father a child.

“In my head, I’m like all this because I’ve never, I’ve not conceived,” she said.
