“What if rain falls?” – Man challenges Hilda Baci’s plan to cook world’s largest jollof rice in 6×6 meter pot
A Nigerian man has raised several concerns over celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s plan to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice in a massive six-by-six meter pot.
The questions were posed in a TikTok video by user @sleekpapi_, who highlighted possible challenges Baci and her team might face during the Guinness World Record attempt.
This comes just days after the chef carried out a test run of the giant pot, sparking widespread curiosity and debate online.
In his video, the man wondered how the team would manage sudden rainfall, what would happen if a bird dropped waste into the pot, and whether the workers climbing ladders to stir the food risked falling inside.
He also raised concerns about the difficulty of stirring such a large quantity of rice evenly, especially when the food begins to burn at the bottom.
“What if it rains? This is a very big pot. How are they going to cover it quickly, especially since they’ll need to open it to add spices?” he asked.
“What if a bird flies past and drops shit inside? What if someone falls in—not Hilda, since she has experience, but one of her workers who may not be as experienced? I see they are using ladders to climb and reach the food. What if someone slips and falls inside?”
“That would be a real burnt offering. And this food—is it not too much? How will the spoon have enough strength to turn it?”
“Even in this test run, you can see the stress it takes to stir with that very long and heavy spoon. When the food gets to a higher level and starts burning at the bottom, how will she be able to turn it properly and make sure the ingredients spread evenly? There are so many questions to ask. How will the heat even rise and cook the food well?”
The video has since generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in.
While some agreed with his concerns, others expressed confidence that Hilda Baci’s experience as a chef would help her overcome the challenges.
