“We’re not happy…” — Lagos Imams warn Nigerians over US-Israel-Iran conflict

The League of Imams in Lagos State has warned Nigerians to avoid protests that could disturb peace, stressing that this period should focus on prayer and reflection.
The appeal comes amid demonstrations in parts of the country, including Lagos, following the recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and increased international tension.
A Call for Peace During Ramadan
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Chief Missioner of the Ansarudeen Society, delivered the message on behalf of the guild during the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir programme at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Tuesday evening.
Ahmad emphasised that religious periods like Ramadan and Lent should be dedicated to praying for peace and stability in Lagos and across Nigeria.
He warned against joining protests without understanding the consequences, noting that such actions could lead to unnecessary violence.
“This is a time for prayer, a time to be part of peace, this is not a time for protest and demonstration. This is not a time for insults. This is not a time for upheavals. It is a time of sober reflection,” he said.
Highlighting Nigeria’s vulnerability to global crises, Ahmad pointed out potential economic impacts, such as rising fuel prices, and cautioned that societal unrest could worsen these challenges.
“We are not happy that our brothers and fellow human beings have been attacked on a daily basis, but if we cannot be part of the solution, we should not be part of the problem. Don’t join a protest that you don’t understand. Remember the lessons from #EndSARS. Don’t cause disruption”, he added.
Ahmad called on all clerics to use their platforms to preach against unrest and encouraged citizens to prioritise peace, allowing harmony to flourish throughout the country.
