Viral throwback: Man who backed Tinubu’s eight-year rule now begs for ₦1.5m rent help

A man, has become the centre of online discussion after an old political post he made resurfaced alongside a recent appeal for financial assistance, highlighting a sharp contrast between past confidence and present hardship.

In September 2023, he had taken to X to boldly declare that Bola Tinubu would remain Nigeria’s president for the next eight years.

Rent crisis sparks online attention

Nearly three years later, the same man returned to the platform with a very different message.

He disclosed that his family was facing eviction after his ₦1.5 million rent became overdue from November 2025. Describing the situation as overwhelming, he appealed to the public for help, requesting donations of ₦10,000, ₦50,000 or ₦100,000, and shared his bank account details.

He noted that he had reached his financial limit and expressed gratitude to anyone willing to assist, later posting a follow-up message thanking donors for their kindness.

Social media reacts with mockery and debate

The situation drew further attention after a woman reposted screenshots of both posts side by side, openly mocking him.

Laughing at the contrast, she questioned how someone who once projected political certainty now found himself pleading for rent support.

Her reaction triggered mixed responses online. While some users joined in the mockery, others urged restraint, pointing out that economic realities have worsened for many Nigerians and that personal hardship can affect anyone, regardless of past political opinions.
