An unfortunate incident occurred at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Zoological Park, where a nine-year-old hungry lion tragically mauled the zookeeper, Olabode Olawuyi.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, February 19, as reported by Gistreel, leading to a harrowing aftermath captured in a video that has since surfaced online.

Olabode Olawuyi, a seasoned Veterinary Technologist with over a decade of experience, had been in charge of the Zoological garden at OAU.

The distressing video portrays the aftermath of the lion’s mauling, with Olawuyi lying unconscious and bloodied on the floor.

Shocked colleagues can be heard expressing their outrage, vowing that the lion responsible would not escape consequences.

As tensions rise in the video, one staff member takes decisive action and pulls out a firearm, aiming it at the lion that attacked Olawuyi.

Amid intense tension, a gunshot is heard, hitting the lion. The wounded animal, affected by the gunshot, is then seen limping before collapsing and succumbing to its injuries.

The public relations officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, released a statement confirming the tragic incident and expressing condolences to Olawuyi’s family.
