“Valentine’s grief or excuse?” — Lady questions relationship as boyfriend mourns mum three years after her death

A lady has sparked intense debate online after questioning her relationship with her boyfriend, whom she accused of repeatedly using grief as an excuse to avoid celebrating Valentine’s Day with her.
“My boyfriend’s mother died on Valentine’s Day three years ago. I have not received Valentine in three years because of that,” she wrote.
Lady says boyfriend uses mother’s death as excuse to skip Valentine’s day
She explained that every year, once February begins, her boyfriend becomes emotional and withdrawn.
She said he changes his WhatsApp display picture to his late mother’s photo, spends days crying, and avoids any Valentine-related activities. According to her, the pattern has remained the same for three consecutive years.
The woman expressed frustration that while her friends receive gifts and affection from their partners during Valentine’s season, she receives nothing.
Lady says she feels neglected
She said she has tried to be understanding and supportive, often reminding him that his mother is “in heaven” and encouraging him to find happiness again, but nothing has changed.
“This year again, he changed his WhatsApp DP to his mother’s picture,” she wrote, adding that she feels emotionally neglected and exhausted by the recurring situation.
She questioned whether her boyfriend was genuinely grieving or simply using the anniversary of his mother’s death as an excuse to avoid making effort in the relationship.
