US Congressman Riley Moore condemns killings in Plateau, calls for action to protect Christians

US Congressman Riley Moore has condemned the recent killings in Plateau State, accusing the Nigerian government of failing to adequately protect Christian communities from violent attacks.

In a statement, Moore contrasted Nigeria’s swift response to an attempted coup in Benin with what he described as inaction over attacks on Christians within Nigeria.

He alleged that Christians gathered for a mass burial following an earlier attack were subsequently killed by what he described as “radical Islamic terrorists.”

The congressman further claimed that despite alleged prior warnings of impending attacks, authorities failed to intervene effectively.

He urged the Nigerian government to take stronger measures against terrorism and protect vulnerable communities in the country’s Middle Belt region.

Moore also referenced the administration of Donald Trump, expressing appreciation that protecting Christians in Nigeria was included in a new US counterterrorism strategy.

He called on the US government to take stronger action in response to the violence in Plateau State.

His words …

“When I visited Nigeria, the government responded swiftly to quell a coup in Benin.

Nigeria’s willingness to step in to stop a violent attack in another country, while they stand by as their own Christian citizens are brutalized makes these absolutely horrific scenes unfolding in Plateau State all the more unconscionable.

Christians — who were gathered for a mass burial for those killed in a previous attack — were viciously murdered by radical Islamic terrorists.

The Nigerian Government could root out the terrorism and stop the martyrdom of its own citizens. But, despite receiving early warnings of impending attacks, they are nowhere to be found as Christians are murdered for their faith, like lambs led to slaughter.

Enough is enough.

I am grateful the Trump Administration specifically identified protecting Christians in Nigeria in the administration’s new Counterterrorism Strategy. Now, I am asking the Trump Administration to take forceful action to defend our innocent brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, the epicenter of an ongoing Christian genocide.”
