UNICAL suspends 9 students over exam malpractice, result forgery

The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students for examination malpractice and result forgery as reported by The Cable.
The decision was announced on Tuesday in an official statement issued by the Registrar, Chukwuka Icha.
He explained that the action followed deliberations at the institution’s 252nd Senate meeting.
Senate Reviews Committee Reports
According to the statement, the Senate carefully considered findings submitted by its ad hoc committee on examination malpractice and the students’ disciplinary committee.
Five of the affected students were found guilty of involvement in examination malpractice.
The remaining four were sanctioned for presenting forged academic results to the university.
“After reviewing the reports and recommendations of the committees, the management resolved that the affected students should be suspended for two academic sessions and the suspension will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic year,” the statement reads.
Departments of Affected Students
Among those suspended are five students from the Department of Pharmacy.
They include Akwuba Enestina and Udom Iboro, both in 300 level, Nwankwo Daniel in 200 level, and Ore Israel and Chisom Ejafa, who are in 500 level.
Others affected by the decision are Lazarus Ebogo from the Department of Home Economics, Ele Godwin from the Department of Zoology, Ofem Patrick from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and Makailu Pamilo from the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies.
The university management has directed the relevant heads of departments and deans to enforce the suspension.
The acting Chief Security Officer has also been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
