UCL: Osimhen returns ahead of Juventus clash

Galatasaray have been handed a fitness boost ahead of their Champions League play-off second leg against Juventus, with striker Victor Osimhen returning to full training.

The Nigeria international resumed work with teammates on Monday after missing the weekend Super Lig defeat to Konyaspor.

He had been left out of the squad as a precaution because of minor pain in his right knee.

His absence was felt as Galatasaray slipped to a 2-0 loss, only their second league defeat of the campaign.

The club had moved quickly to manage the issue, prioritising his availability for the decisive European fixture in Turin.

Key role in first leg

Osimhen was instrumental in the first meeting between the sides in Istanbul, where Galatasaray claimed a 5-2 victory. He provided two assists as the Turkish champions took control of the tie and built a three-goal cushion.

The 27-year-old has been central to Galatasaray’s Champions League campaign, recording six goals and two assists in seven appearances. Across all competitions this season, he has contributed 15 goals and five assists.

Coach Okan Buruk’s side travel to Italy knowing they hold a commanding advantage but must manage expectations and maintain focus to complete the job.

Juventus under pressure

Juventus face a significant challenge at home. The Serie A club are winless in their last five matches and require at least a three-goal victory to force extra time and keep their hopes of reaching the round of 16 alive.

The return leg is scheduled for Wednesday, 25 February, with kick-off set for 9:00pm local time at the Allianz Stadium.

Galatasaray will look to capitalise on their first-leg dominance, while Juventus aim to produce a response in front of their home supporters.

Osimhen’s return strengthens Galatasaray’s options as they seek to secure progression and avoid a late shift in momentum.
