UCL: Osimhen demands more despite Juventus rout

Victor Osimhen has explained his visible frustration during Galatasaray’s 5-2 victory over Juventus, insisting the scoreline was “not enough” ahead of a demanding second leg in Turin.

The Nigerian striker did not score in the Champions League play-off first leg at RAMS Park but registered two assists as Galatasaray surged into control.

Despite the dominant performance, Osimhen was seen angrily urging teammates on when his side went 3-2 ahead and again after the final whistle.

‘3-2 is not enough’

Speaking after the match, the 2023 CAF Player of the Year said his reaction was driven by caution rather than dissatisfaction.

“I mean, we all know why I took the ball. 3-2 is not enough against this kind of team,” Osimhen said in comments shared by Forza Cimbom.

“The way I see it, they are Italian teams. This is Juventus, one of the best teams in the world. They are capable of surprises, they’ve got the qualities.”

Galatasaray eventually extended their lead to 5-2, but Osimhen made clear that his mindset was focused on building a decisive cushion before the return fixture.

“To make them weaker, you have to score more goals to make the game balanced. Also, because there’s a second leg to play in Turin next week, for me, it’s important to carry the ball and try to psyche my teammates to make sure we get more goals,” he added.

Focus shifts to Turin

Osimhen described the performance as one of Galatasaray’s strongest in Europe this season but warned against complacency.

“We really did well and deserved the win, but that doesn’t take anything away from Juventus, who are a great side. We also have to show up in Turin.”

Galatasaray face a domestic trip to Konyaspor before travelling to Italy for the decisive second leg, where Osimhen expects a far sterner test as Juventus attempt to overturn the deficit.
