UCL: Onana suffers another nightmare as Manchester United lose 3-2 to Galatasaray

Manchester United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana has suffered another Champions League nightmare, after errors that gave Galatasaray a 3-2 victory.

Onana committed two notable errors in quick succession that led to his team’s loss at Old Trafford.

The match was squared at 1-1 before halftime, but the second half saw Manchester United take the lead with Rasmus Hojlund’s second goal in the game.

However, Galatasaray’s Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu canceled the goal four minutes later. This ignited some pressure from the visitors on United, with Onana making a terrible mistake.

His attempt to play out from the back resulted in a pass that was intercepted by Dries Mertens, who rushed into the United box. But a reckless challenge from Casemiro led to a penalty and subsequent red card, although the opportunity was wasted by Mauro Icardi, after sending it wide.

As if the error was not enough, Onana for the second time, gifted Galatasaray a goal shortly afterward.

A cleared header from Davinson Sanchez found its way to Icardi, who faced Onana one-on-one. Despite Icardi’s chip barely lifting off the ground, it managed to beat Onana, putting Galatasaray in front, for the first time in the game.

Onana’s mistake was further compounded by Sofyan Amrabat, who played Icardi onside, standing behind the rest of the defenders.

The defeat now leaves Manchester United with no points in two of their opening Champions League matches. They had previously lost to Bayern Munich in their opener, where Onana also took the blame for their loss

In all, Erik ten Hag’s team have only been able to pick just two wins in seven matches across all competition.
