UCL: Mourinho hails Chelsea’s Pedro Neto ahead of Benfica clash

Benfica manager José Mourinho has described Pedro Neto as “one of the best wingers in the world” ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese coach, who enjoyed two trophy-laden spells in charge of the Blues, admitted he “would love” to have Neto in his squad but acknowledged the financial gulf that separates the two clubs.
Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge return
The 62-year-old, who lifted eight major honours across his Chelsea tenures, will make an emotional return to west London as Benfica look to secure their first Champions League win of the season.
Mourinho’s side opened their campaign with a 3-2 loss to Qarabag but have since enjoyed a steady domestic run since his reappointment earlier this month.

Neto responds with praise
Neto, who joined Chelsea from Wolves in a £54m move in 2024, returned the compliment during the build-up.
“It would be a privilege to be managed by José Mourinho,” the Portugal international told reporters. “What he has done for Portuguese football, and what he represents, is huge.”
Chelsea under pressure
Enzo Maresca’s side head into the tie looking to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in their Group Stage opener.
The Londoners are also winless in their last three Premier League games, with Liverpool visiting Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
Neto has quickly become a key figure for Chelsea, scoring nine goals in 51 appearances last season as the club lifted both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
