UCL: Chelsea issue warning after fans injured in Naples

Chelsea have urged supporters travelling to Naples for Wednesday’s Champions League clash to exercise “extreme caution” after two fans were taken to hospital following an incident in the Italian city.
Club confirms hospitalisation
In a statement released on Tuesday night, Chelsea confirmed they were aware of the situation involving their supporters. “The club is aware of an incident that took place on Tuesday evening in Naples,” the statement read.
“Two fans are being treated in hospital, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The club would like to remind all supporters to exercise extreme caution whilst in the city and take note of the advice shared ahead of this fixture.”
There has been no official confirmation regarding how the injuries were sustained.

Travel advice reinforced
Approximately 2,500 Chelsea fans are expected to attend the match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Supporters have been advised to gather at designated meeting points before travelling to the stadium via shuttle buses under police escort.
Chelsea had already issued guidance earlier this month, warning fans of the risks associated with European away games in Naples.
“During UEFA competition matches, attacks on away fans have sometimes occurred in Naples,” the club said in its pre-match travel advice.
Fans have also been strongly advised not to walk around the city centre, avoid wearing club colours, and refrain from displaying items that could identify them as Chelsea supporters.
High stakes on the pitch
On the football side, Chelsea head into the fixture knowing a victory would secure direct qualification to the Champions League last-16. Napoli, Serie A champions last season, are also under pressure, needing a win to keep their hopes of progressing in the competition alive.
Security arrangements around the game are expected to remain tight as authorities work to ensure the safety of travelling supporters.
