Turkish Super Lig: Super Eagles stars Onuachu, Nwaiwu fire Trabzonspor past Galatasaray

Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu delivered decisive goals as Trabzonspor secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Galatasaray, tightening the race at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig.
Trabzonspor made an aggressive start and were rewarded inside three minutes. Onuachu rose highest to meet a pinpoint delivery from Wagner Pina, powering a header past the goalkeeper to hand the hosts an early advantage.
The Nigerian striker’s opener reinforced his importance to Trabzonspor’s title push, with his physical presence and finishing proving difficult for Galatasaray’s defence to contain.
Second-half response and winner
Galatasaray responded after the break, drawing level through Wilfried Singo, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to restore parity.

However, Trabzonspor regained control midway through the second half. Nwaiwu converted from close range in the 62nd minute, heading home a well-worked set-piece delivered by Anthony Nwakaeme to restore the lead.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, Trabzonspor held firm defensively to secure all three points.
Title race intensifies
The result moves Trabzonspor to within one point of league leaders Galatasaray, significantly raising the stakes in the title race. While Galatasaray remain top with a game in hand, the gap has narrowed, placing increased pressure on their remaining fixtures.
Onuachu’s goal further strengthens his position as the league’s leading scorer, underlining his consistency in front of goal this season.
Meanwhile, Nwaiwu continues to build momentum following his recent international debut, adding another key contribution in a high-stakes encounter.
