Tuchel praises Guehi as ‘best team-mate’ after England 5-0 thrashing of Serbia

Marc Guehi has earned praise from England manager Thomas Tuchel, who described him as the “best team-mate” following his performance in the Three Lions’ 5-0 win over Serbia in Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Guehi had seen a proposed move to Liverpool collapse on transfer deadline day but responded with a strong display for his country, scoring one of England’s goals in Belgrade.
England maintained their perfect qualifying record with goals from Harry Kane and Noni Madueke in the first half, before Ezri Konsa, Guehi, and Marcus Rashford sealed the victory after the break.
Despite carrying a groin problem from England’s previous fixture against Andorra, the Crystal Palace defender featured from the start and impressed.
Tuchel highlighted his commitment, noting his willingness to put team success above personal setbacks.
“It’s the example of how the boys were in this camp, exactly like this,” Tuchel told ITV.
“They put their personal interests aside. He was the best team-mate possible and had a fantastic performance,” added.
Guehi is expected to return to club action this weekend when Palace host newly promoted Sunderland in the Premier League.
