Trinity Rodman becomes World’s top-earning female footballer

Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman has set a new benchmark in women’s football, becoming the highest-paid female player globally after agreeing to a three-year contract extension with her club, the team confirmed on Thursday.

The 23-year-old, daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, had been a free agent following the expiration of her previous deal on December 31, 2025.

Her new contract reportedly earns her $2 million per year, including performance bonuses, keeping her at Washington Spirit through 2028.

The move surpasses Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner from 2023 to 2025, who previously held the title of highest-paid female footballer.

Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly, she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s soccer,” Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang said.

Rodman’s rise has been meteoric. She helped the Spirit clinch the NWSL Championship in her debut season in 2021 and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year.

Since her international debut in 2022, she has earned 47 caps for the United States, scoring 11 goals, including three at the 2024 Paris Olympics where Team USA won gold.

The contract follows the NWSL’s new “High Impact Player” rule, introduced in December 2025, which allows teams to spend up to $1 million above the $3.5 million salary cap on elite players.

Rodman described the deal as “amazing” and called it a “monumental and game-changing moment” in her career.

Her signing underscores the increasing financial recognition of female talent in football and the growing global profile of the NWSL.
