Transfer: PSG dismiss Chelsea interest in Super Falcons Echegini

Paris Saint-Germain have rejected an approach from Chelsea for Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini, maintaining their stance that the Nigerian international is central to the club’s long-term plans.

Reports indicate that Chelsea made enquiries about the 24-year-old as part of efforts to strengthen their midfield options, but PSG were not open to negotiations.

The French champions are understood to view Echegini as a non-transferable asset at this stage of the project.

According to Le Parisien journalist Benjamin Suarez, PSG consider Echegini “untouchable” and a key figure in their sporting strategy, effectively ruling out any potential deal.

PSG firm on long-term plans

Echegini joined PSG from Juventus in June 2024 and has quickly established herself as an important presence in midfield.

Her current contract runs until June 2027, placing the French club in a strong position amid external interest.

PSG’s refusal to entertain Chelsea’s bid is in line with their broader objective of maintaining squad stability, particularly in the women’s team, where continuity and development remain priorities.

The club believes Echegini’s profile and performances justify her status as a cornerstone of the squad.

The Nigeria international is currently rated as Africa’s fifth most valuable female footballer, speaking to her growing reputation at both club and international level.

Rising profile on Club and international stage

Echegini’s standing rose significantly following her decisive contribution at international level.

She scored the winning goal for Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, securing the title against hosts Morocco at the expense of the Atlas Lionesses.
