Tragic loss: First class student and parents die, buried on same day
A community in Nigeria has been left in shock after a brilliant graduate and both his parents died within weeks, in a series of tragic events.
Graduate dies in fatal accident
The young man, who graduated with a first-class degree, was preparing to complete his service year. He had secured admission for a master’s programme in the United States through his uncle.
Tragically, while travelling to Abuja to complete documentation for the programme, he was involved in a fatal accident. “He died on the spot,” an eyewitness recounted. He was our coursemate and one of the brightest. It was devastating news for his family.”
The young man was the only child of his parents, and the news of his death had an immediate and fatal impact on his father.
“When his father received the news, he slumped and died instantly,” the eyewitness added.
Mother takes her life, all three buried together
Just weeks before the planned burial, the young man’s mother reportedly ingested poison, taking her own life. The three were eventually buried on the same day, leaving friends and neighbours mourning the immense loss.
“On the day of their burial, vanity stopped being a scripture. It became a story I witnessed,” the eyewitness said, reflecting on the emotional weight of the tragedy.
The incident has sparked conversations around grief, mental health, and the importance of emotional support for families dealing with sudden and multiple losses.
