Trabzonspor deny agreement to sign Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor have dismissed reports claiming the club has reached an agreement to sign Mohamed Salah, despite growing speculation surrounding the Egypt international’s future.

Rumours gathered ground over the weekend after reports suggested Trabzonspor were close to hijacking Besiktas’ pursuit of the former Liverpool forward, with claims he could even be unveiled during the club’s 59th anniversary celebrations.

However, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has denied that any deal has been agreed and insisted there are no immediate plans to bring Salah to the Turkish club.

Trabzonspor president rejects transfer claims

Speaking to Turkish broadcaster A Spor, Doğan described the reports as inaccurate and stressed that the club would communicate any genuine developments through official channels.

“There is no such agreement,” Doğan said. “As for plans to bring him to Trabzon, there is no such plan; there is nothing to it.”

“If there were such a plan, information would be provided from our side, the press would be informed, and so on. There is no such thing.”

The Trabzonspor chief admitted Salah is a player any club would be interested in signing but maintained that discussions have not resulted in an agreement.

“Salah is a very professional, highly successful player known worldwide. He is one of the players with the best careers out there. Of course, who wouldn’t want Salah? That is a separate matter.”

Besiktas remain in the race

Doğan also declined to confirm whether he had held talks with the Egyptian forward, saying only that supporters would be informed if there were any concrete progress.

“I don’t want to talk about this. Of course, the fans want to see a player like Salah, and so do I.”

“There’s no agreement, no planned trip. We will inform our community and our fans as soon as there is a development.”

The Trabzonspor president repeated the same position during the club’s anniversary celebrations, insisting reports of ongoing negotiations were unfounded.

Salah became a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, bringing an end to a trophy-laden eight-year spell at Anfield in which he scored more than 250 goals and won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

While Trabzonspor have ruled themselves out for now, Turkish rivals Besiktas have confirmed discussions with the 34-year-old but have also stated they will not improve their current offer.
