Top-flight manager dies at 44 after collapsing mid-game
Serbian football has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Mladen Zizovic, head coach of Radnicki 1923, who passed away at the age of 44 after collapsing during a league match on Sunday evening.
The Bosnian-born manager reportedly suffered a heart attack while watching his side face Mladost Lucani in the Serbian SuperLiga.
The incident occurred just 22 minutes into the game, prompting immediate medical intervention before Zizovic was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Match abandoned after devastating news
Although play initially continued as officials awaited updates, the match was eventually abandoned after confirmation of Zizovic’s death was received roughly 20 minutes later.
Footage shared on social media captured heartbreaking scenes, as Radnicki players broke down in tears upon learning the news. Several teammates and opposition players were visibly shaken, consoling one another on the pitch.
Zizovic had only recently taken charge of Radnicki, overseeing just his third game since being appointed on October 23.
Club and FA mourn a “good man and friend”
Radnicki 1923 confirmed the passing in an emotional statement: “Our club has lost not only a great expert but, above all, a good man, friend and sportsman who with his knowledge, energy and nobility left a deep mark on all who knew him.”
The Football Association of Serbia also expressed “deep sorrow and disbelief,” describing Zizovic’s death as a “tremendous loss for the entire football community.”
Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade offered condolences, saying:
“With sadness, we received the news that Radnicki’s coach, Mladen Zizovic, has suddenly passed away. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and club.”
Career and legacy
A former Bosnia and Herzegovina international, Zizovic made two appearances for his country and enjoyed a playing career across Bosnia and Albania before retiring in 2016.
He leaves behind three children and his sudden death has left the Balkan football community united in grief.
Radnicki 1923 concluded their tribute stating: “Rest in peace, Young one.”
