Tonto Dikeh (born June 9, 1985) is a Nigerian actress, musician, composer, and humanitarian. On August 27, 2000, Dikeh established her nonprofit, the Tonto Dikeh nonprofit.

In June 2022, Dikeh was announced as the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election. Following her announcement as deputy, she was greeted warmly by the people of Port Harcourt.

Tonto Charity Dikeh was born on June 9th, 1985, in Ikwerre, Rivers, Nigeria. Dikeh was born into a household of seven, the third of five children. Her family is of Ikwerre heritage and hails from Obio-Akpor, a local government area in Rivers State, south-south Nigeria.

At the age of three, she lost her mother and was raised by her stepmother, who had two children. Dikeh studied petrochemical engineering at Rivers State University (formerly Rivers State University of Science and Technology).

Career

Tonto Dikeh’s career in Nigerian entertainment began in 2006 after appearing on the reality TV show The Next Movie Star in 2005. Before that, she was a vehicle salesman in Port Harcourt.

At some time during her acting career, Amaco Investments featured her in a music video alongside Patience Ozokwor. Following the video, she made her musical debut with the singles Hi and Itz Ova.

On June 13, 2014, a popular Nigerian musician named D’Banj signed her to his record label, DB Records. She left DB Records in March 2015 to pursue other business opportunities.

Tonto Dikeh Foundation

Tonto Dikeh founded the NGO Tonto Dikeh Foundation in the year 2000. She founded the charity because she is passionate about improving the standard of living of disadvantaged and displaced women, girls, youths, and children in Africa, regardless of political, religious, or cultural backgrounds.

The organisation also plans to hold regular sensitisation programmes and symposium talks around women, rape, empowerment, climate change, and child rights. So far, the organisation has helped 6983 people with scholarships and medical care. The foundation is also interested in gender advocacy.

Tonto Dikeh Husband

Tonto Dikeh’s ex-fiancé, Prince Joseph Kpokpogri, filed a lawsuit against her and the Department of State Security (DSS) in September 2021, alleging that they had threatened his fundamental human rights. Kpokpogri claimed he left Tonto because of her heavy smoking and bad drinking habits.

Controversy

Dikeh was rumoured to have had a sexual relationship with Rukky Sanda back in 2014. However, in an interview with Rukky Sanda, the myth was refuted.

Her traditional marriage to Olakunle Churchill took place in August 2015. In February 2016, Dikeh gave birth to their son, King, whom she dubbed Baby X. Dikeh’s marriage to Churchill ended in 2017 due to allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse.

Dikeh became embroiled in a controversy in early October 2021 after posting purported voice notes on her social media handles claiming that her ex-lover, Joseph Egbri (also known as Prince Kpokpogri), had sex tapes and naked photos of Usiwo Orezimena Jane, a Nigerian twerk dancer known as Janemena. Dikeh was said to have made the charges following her tumultuous split with her ex-lover, Kpokpogri, in September.
