Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan has won Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo 2025 Athletics Championship.
The 2025 Tokyo athletics championship commenced on September 13, 2025, with athletes from over 200 countries competing.

Tobi Amusan claimed the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles final with a time of 12.29 seconds, behind Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland with 12.24 seconds.
It’s worth noting that she won gold medals in the 100m hurdles at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She’s a three-time Diamond League champion, winning consecutive titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Tobi Amusan’s Biography
Tobi Amusan was born on April 23, 1997, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, and quickly rose to prominence with her speed and technique in the 100m hurdles.
Early Life And Education
Amusan attended Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode and earned a scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
In May 2023, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Leadership Studies and Sports Management from UTEP.
Tobi Amusan commenced athletics at a young age. She started competing in track and field events during her secondary school days at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria.
Tobi Amusan first represented Nigeria in the 2013 African Youth Championships in Warri, Delta state.
She won silver in the 200m with a time of 24.45 seconds and bronze in the long jump with a distance of 5.52 meters.
It’s worth noting that Amusan has represented Nigeria in various international competitions, including the Olympics, World Championships and African Games.
