“Tinubu’s tenure is worse than Buhari’s” – Ex-military officer laments insecurity crisis, warns Nigerians

An Ex-military officer has sparked reactions online after expressing concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, warning that citizens have not yet seen the full extent of what lies ahead if urgent action is not taken.
Speaking during a live video on TikTok in Yoruba, he claimed that kidnapping and insecurity have continued to spread across the country despite the change in leadership.
In his words, he said:
“I’m a 3-star captain, so you can’t be arguing with me in terms of security. Tinubu knows all that is happening in Nigeria.
You can see that I’m showing my face out here, so I’m not afraid. The kidnapping happening everywhere isn’t behind the handiwork of governors and presidents, and you all haven’t seen anything yet, there is more to come.”
He noted that many Nigerians expected insecurity to reduce under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu compared to former President Buhari’s regime, but argued that the situation has instead worsened.
The former officer also lamented the impact of insecurity on education, saying many parents now fear sending their children to school because of the growing threat of abduction.
“We can’t send our children to school again, they will kidnap them, in a country that has a president. But within three and a half years, someone has spent 160 trillion. What did they use it for? This period is worse than Buhari’s time,” he added.
He further questioned why Nigerian troops could be deployed to support security operations in other countries while many communities at home continue to face security challenges.
The comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with Nigerians sharing differing views on the country’s security situation and the government’s response.
