“Tinubu, you do this one” — Man says as his aunt vows to vote for the first time

A Nigerian man has stirred conversations online after sharing how his aunt, who once refused to vote, has now registered for her Permanent Voter Card (PVC) ahead of the next elections.

In a viral post, the man revealed that his aunt, who lives in a stronghold of the ruling party, has become unusually determined to participate in the electoral process.

He wrote, “My aunt who refused to vote last elections just told me she has registered for her PVC.

She lives in an APC stronghold. She said if anyone tries to prevent her from voting the opposition next year in her neighborhood, there will be war.

This was the same person who told me in 2023 that all the candidates are the same.

Tinubu, you do this one.”

Shift in Voter Attitude Sparks Debate

The post has since generated mixed reactions, with many Nigerians pointing to a growing shift in public attitude as economic realities bite harder.

Some users believe the story reflects a wider awakening among previously indifferent voters, while others insist that distrust in politicians remains strong.

Michael, reacting to the post, said, “The way I dey mobilize all the oldies in my area to get their PVC eh, and the way I steadily update them on what’s going on eh, I’ve never been this invested in election like this one!! Everyone around me must vote.”

Adeola, however, expressed scepticism, writing, “Every Nigerian politicians are the same to some extent. Imagine our governor’s hoard palliative during Covid. I’ve never seen any evil than Nigerian politicians.”

Nigerians React to Growing Political Interest

Other users highlighted how personal experiences and economic pressure may be pushing more citizens to take political participation seriously.

Kie commented, “😂 People really change when stakes feel personal. From “all the same” to “fight me if you stop me” 2023 to 2026 energy shift is real. Tinubu might need a strategy for aunt-level voters now.”

Odionwere added, “This one na serious transformation oh!

From “all the candidates are the same” to “if you touch my vote, na war”, na real life pressure don do rebranding.

Under Tinubu, even the most neutral people don pick side by force. When hardship reach everybody’s doorstep, apathy no dey survive again.

But on a serious note, this is how change dey start, when people wey normally no send finally decide say their voice matter.

Your aunt don move from observer to participant… and honestly, na millions more Nigerians need to reach that same point.”
