“Tinubu, where are you?” — American Humanitarian Alex Barbir cries out over Plateau killings on Palm Sunday

An American humanitarian, Alex Barbir, has criticised Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following reports of a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State, on Palm Sunday.

In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), Barbir expressed outrage over the killing of innocent residents, many of whom he described as Christians observing the religious occasion.

He said, “In Ocabu, they just murdered over 10 people. Innocent Christians on Palm Sunday. Tinubu, where are you? As your people are slaughtered in the night.”

Barbir accused the Nigerian government of inaction, adding that repeated attacks have continued without adequate response from authorities.

“As you sit in Aso Rock and you do absolutely nothing. You allow your people to be killed again and again and again and again,” he said.

Strong Allegations and Government Criticism

Continuing his remarks, Barbir questioned the government’s handling of insecurity and warned of consequences if urgent action is not taken.

When will it stop? When will you hear the cries of Nigerians, of Christians? You can no longer deny genocide. They’re being slaughtered. And you say there’s no issue. You will regret what you are doing,” he added.

His comments have since sparked widespread debate online, with Nigerians sharing mixed reactions over the claims and the broader security situation in the country.

Public Reactions Divided

Some social media users supported Barbir’s stance, urging local communities to take responsibility for identifying and stopping perpetrators of violence.

One user wrote, “Maybe it’s time for the north to fish out these bad eggs. They live amongst them and serve the purpose of the likes of atiku and el rufai. North take back your region, there is only a few of them. If you unite, you can flush them out for good.”

Others expressed frustration and hinted at possible retaliation if the situation persists.

Another user, SundayIkale, wrote, “The hunter will soon become the haunted, it’s about time and it will be something very simple that will trigger it.”

However, not all reactions aligned with Barbir’s claims. Some users cautioned against framing the violence along religious lines, stressing that terrorism affects multiple groups.

A user identified as Funsho stated, “Why do people like to spread propaganda on social media. This is not a matter of terrorist killing Christians in Jos.

“This is terrorists killing people in Jos & the govt must protect them. Because the last time I checked, those bastards terrorists are killing Muslims too.”
