Three Nigerian talents nominated for Premier League 2 award
Three players of Nigerian descent; Arsenal’s Andre Harriman-Annous, Southampton’s Romeo Akachukwu, and Ipswich Town’s Tudor Mendel-Idowu, have all been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for September 2025.
Annous, Akachukwu and Mendel-Idowu shine in September
Harriman-Annous enjoyed a strong month for Arsenal, scoring in a dramatic comeback win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and again in the Vertu Trophy triumph against Newport County.
He also made a key impact off the bench in the victory against Derby County.
Akachukwu continued to impress for Southampton’s U21s, scoring and assisting in the win over Burnley before adding another assist in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City.
His form has helped the Saints extend their unbeaten run through September.
Meanwhile, Mendel-Idowu, a former Chelsea academy product, was instrumental as Ipswich Town secured back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Liverpool.
He found the net against his old club on September 20 and struck again a week later in a 3-2 win over the Reds.
Winner to be snnounced Friday
The three Nigerians are up against Fulham duo Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Farhaan Ali-Wahid, Brighton’s Joe Belmont, and Tottenham Hotspur pair Luca Williams-Barnett and Rio Kyerematen.
The Premier League will announce the winner of the September 2025 PL2 Player of the Month award on Friday.
