“Those who did are regretting it now” — Toke Makinwa warns ladies against marrying in their 20s

Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has sparked debate after sharing her opinion that women should not rush into marriage in their 20s, arguing that the period is better suited for self-discovery and personal growth.

Speaking during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, Makinwa said many women are still learning about themselves in their 20s and should avoid making major life decisions, such as marriage, too early.

According to the media personality, the experiences and lessons women gain during their 20s help shape their identity and prepare them for long-term commitments later in life.

She argued that many women who married at a young age eventually realised they had rushed into the decision.

According to her, some remain in their marriages but privately admit they would have chosen differently if given another opportunity.

Women have no business getting married in their 20s… You don’t even know yourself yet. Those who did are regretting it now. Even those who are still married if they are being honest, they will tell you that they shouldn’t have rushed it,” she said.

Her remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users agreed that people should focus on personal development before marriage, others argued that the right age to marry depends on individual maturity, values and circumstances rather than age alone.
