“Those waiting for me to defect to APC will wait longer” – Alex Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has dismissed speculation suggesting that he is preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), making it clear that he has no immediate plans to leave his current political platform.

The governor addressed the rumours amid a wave of defections by politicians across party lines, particularly into the ruling party.

However, Otti cautioned against reading too much into the current political climate, stressing that major political decisions should not be influenced by pressure, trends, or the actions of others.

“Those waiting for me to defect to APC will have to wait a longer time. Everyone has their own opinion and circumstances; you don’t just join APC because many other governors are joining,” he said.

According to him, those anticipating his defection to the APC would have to “wait a little longer,” as he believes that political choices must be guided by conviction, principle, and the specific realities facing each individual leader.

Otti further explained that the mere fact that others are joining the APC is not, on its own, a compelling reason for him to do the same.

He emphasized that alignment with any political party must be based on clearly defined objectives and a shared vision, rather than convenience or the desire to follow the prevailing political wave.

His remarks suggest a deliberate and cautious approach to partisan politics, even as defections continue to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

For now, Otti appears focused on governance and delivering on his mandate to the people of Abia State, rather than engaging in speculative political maneuvering.
