Thomas Partey to leave Arsenal as contract talks collapse

Thomas Partey’s time at Arsenal is set to come to an end, with the midfielder leaving the club when his contract expires on Monday, June 30.

Despite recent negotiations over a contract extension, both parties failed to reach an agreement, according to multiple reports including The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Arsenal are expected to formally announce the Ghana international’s departure early next week.

Partey, 32, has been free to negotiate with overseas clubs since January and has reportedly drawn interest from Barcelona and Turkish sides.

His four-year stint at Arsenal saw him make 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and contributing seven assists.

He joined from Atletico Madrid in 2020 after the Gunners activated his £42.7 million release clause.

Injury issues limited his consistency over the years, but he remained a valuable option for Mikel Arteta in the 2024/25 campaign, featuring in 52 matches across all competitions and covering multiple roles, including right-back.

His standout performances included a strong display in Arsenal’s 3-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Real Madrid.

Arsenal are now reshaping their midfield ahead of the new season. Deals for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Brentford captain Christian Norgaard are nearing completion.

The timing of Zubimendi’s deal is expected to align with the new accounting period starting July 1, tied to Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Partey departs the Emirates with only a Community Shield title to his name, won in 2024 against Manchester City.

His exit follows that of Jorginho, who left for Flamengo earlier this summer.
