Thomas Frank insists he won’t be sacked despite Tottenham relegation battle

Thomas Frank says he has been assured his job is safe despite Tottenham Hotspur’s alarming slide toward the relegation zone.

Spurs fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Newcastle on Tuesday night, their 11th league loss of the season and eighth consecutive Premier League match without a win.

The result leaves Tottenham just five points above the drop zone, with frustration growing among supporters.

Boos echoed around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at full-time, and there were visible empty seats at kick-off as tensions continue to rise.

Manager dismisses sack fears

Frank insists he remains backed by the club’s hierarchy.

“I spoke to them [the owners] yesterday, so no,” he told TNT Sports when asked if his job was under threat.

“I understand the frustration and the easiest thing is to point at me. That’s part of the job unfortunately.

“I will work day and night to turn this around but it is not just one person. There is no doubt we need to improve and I need to be part of that.”

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Frank acknowledged supporter unrest.

“I understand the frustration. It has been building up a little bit – last season it was similar playing in Europe and the Premier League.

“We need to be resilient, mentally and physically. I am 100% sure that it is a team effort, and it is not only one person. We are all aligned and we know what needs to be done.”

Relegation talk intensifies

After collecting 10 points from his first five league games in charge, Frank’s side have taken just 19 from the following 21 fixtures. The current eight-match winless streak is Spurs’ longest since 2008, when Juande Ramos was dismissed with the club bottom of the table.

Former Spurs midfielder Glenn Hoddle did not mince words. “You’ve got to say what it is and they are in a relegation fight,” he told TNT Sports. “It is the reality and you have to scrap for every single point.”

Ex-striker Les Ferdinand added: “It is desperate times. And desperate times call for desperate measures.”
