“This boy will go to your change over switch and lose everything” – Lady recounts experience with a new tenant

A Nigerian lady’s dramatic account of a troubling encounter with a new neighbour has sparked conversations online after she shared her experience on X, formerly Twitter.
In a lengthy post, the woman described how a man who recently moved into her compound allegedly began interfering with the building’s electrical systems, leaving residents alarmed and frustrated.
According to her, the man claimed to be highly educated, with a background in electrical engineering and coding, and appeared overly confident in his technical abilities.
The lady narrated that shortly after moving in, the man began inspecting electrical switches around the compound, openly criticising the work of the electrician who wired the building.
She said he insisted the entire compound was poorly wired and even expressed a desire to enter residents’ apartments to carry out a full rewiring.
Trouble reportedly escalated when the man went to the compound’s main electrical box and tampered with it, causing a total power outage.
Residents initially believed it was a general power failure until they later discovered that the blackout was caused by his actions.
She added that he was unable to restore the electricity, forcing the compound to call an external electrician late at night to fix the issue.
Sharing her growing fear, the lady revealed that she later saw the same man again with tools, heading towards the electrical area, raising concerns that another outage could occur. She warned that any further interference would not be taken lightly.
She also recounted a more personal incident that first made her uncomfortable. According to her, the man once knocked on her door during breakfast and asked to come inside.
Once allowed in, she said he walked around her apartment inspecting switches without clear permission, claiming he was comparing her wiring to his own. She later discovered he had done the same to other neighbours.
“This boy will go to your change over switch abi control switch and lose everything,” she wrote. “He even told us that the electrician that wired the whole compound did a bad job.”
She added, “No one knew what happened, we thought Nepa generally took the light… until we got back in the night and found out he was the one that went to lose it and couldn’t fix it.”
The post has since drawn attention online, with many users debating boundaries, consent, and the risks of unauthorised technical work in shared residential spaces.
While some commenters found humour in her storytelling, others expressed concern about safety and urged residents to involve landlords or property managers when dealing with such situations.
