“They called him a laundry boy, but he became my pillar” — Nurse celebrates husband on 7th anniversary

A Nigerian nurse has stirred emotional reactions online after sharing a heartfelt tribute to her husband, recounting how their relationship defied criticism and societal expectations over the past seven years.
The woman, who recently achieved her dream of becoming a United States Registered Nurse (USRN), revealed that many people had discouraged her from marrying her partner due to his modest background.
Facing criticism and choosing love
According to her, critics had described her husband as “just a laundry boy” and urged her to seek a wealthier partner. However, she said she chose to ignore the noise and focus on his potential and character instead.
“Seven years ago, when I chose you, people had so much to say. They called you ‘just a laundry boy.’ They said, as a Registered Nurse, I should aim higher… but while they were busy speaking, I was seeing. I didn’t see your beginning, I saw your potential,” she wrote.
From struggle to shared success
Reflecting on their journey, she credited her husband’s support and faith for helping her achieve her career milestone, describing their progress as a testament to perseverance and divine grace.
“Today, that same ‘laundry boy’ is the man Jehovah used to push me and stand by me until my dream became a reality. This is not luck… this is Jehovah’s doing. We have built something money cannot buy — love, peace, and purpose,” she added.
Her story echoes similar viral accounts in recent years where couples overcame financial hardship and public doubt to achieve success together, reinforcing the message that beginnings do not define outcomes.
