“They beat and handcuff me” – Lady cries out after alleged police harassment over driver’s license

A young Nigerian lady has shared a disturbing account of alleged harassment by police officers in Ekpan, Warri, revealing that she was beaten, handcuffed, and verbally abused.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she narrated that the incident occurred over her driver’s license, which the officers reportedly used as a pretext to assault and intimidate her.

Visibly crying and filled with emotions, she said:

“Because of my driver’s license, I was beaten up, handcuffed, called all sorts of names, and harassed by Nigerian police officers in Ekpan. I am in serious pain and have been crying since. This is not the first time this has happened to me in Warri.”

The story has reignited concerns about police conduct and the treatment of citizens, particularly women, during routine checks.

Many social media users expressed outrage, showing support for the woman and calling for accountability and reforms within the Nigerian Police Force.

A commentator wrote, “This is unacceptable. No one should live in fear of those who are meant to protect us.” Another added, “It’s time the police are held responsible for abusing citizens’ rights.”
