“The most important thing you can give your people is good governance” — Alex Otti
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said that good governance remains the most important thing a government can provide for its people, while insisting that he does not believe in godfatherism.
Otti said he was confident that Abia State would not “go back to Egypt,” adding that his administration should leave behind a successor who would perform better than he has.

“The most important thing you can give your people is good governance. If you’re afraid we will go back to Egypt, it will never happen. By the time I’m done, the person who succeeds me will be better than me.”
The governor also said he had no interest in becoming a political godfather or imposing himself on future administrations.
“I don’t tolerate godfatherism; I don’t want to be a godfather.”
Otti further described himself as someone willing to reject proposals he believes would not work, regardless of who presents them.
“I’m somebody that if you bring something that doesn’t work, I will say no. I’m not afraid to say no.”
