“The more I worked, the more the money vanished” — Man share heartbreaking struggle

A man has shared the heart-wrenching story of his and his elder brother’s struggles after losing their father’s wealth, revealing how life has forced them to start from zero despite years of effort and sacrifice.
The elder brother, Daniel, recently returned from London after 12 years, but brought no wealth or foreign lifestyle with him.
“He didn’t come back with heavy boxes or an ‘abroad’ accent. He came back with a small nylon bag and the same shoes he wore 12 years ago,” the younger brother recalled.
“As we sat on my thin mattress sharing one small sachet of noodles, the silence was louder than our old, noisy fan.”
From riches to hardship
The brothers, both in their late 30s, live in a small, shared room with no wives, children, or property, in the city where their father once owned three filling stations.
The younger brother said their situation changed drastically after their father’s death.
“When our father was alive, we didn’t know what poverty looked like. But the moment he died, the vultures arrived. Our uncles suddenly claimed he owed them millions, and without a will, they swept everything, even taking the cars while we were still mourning,” he said.
Daniel moved to London to try and salvage their future, while the younger brother remained in Nigeria, working low-income jobs despite holding a degree, sending all earnings to Daniel to cover paperwork and permits.
Dreams shattered after years of sacrifice
The reunion, however, revealed that Daniel’s sacrifices had yielded little. “The more I worked in London, the more the money vanished. It’s like I was pouring water into a basket. Every time I see money, a strange bill or a police case will swallow it,” Daniel reportedly told his brother.
The younger brother said the experience has left them both emotionally drained. “Now, we are two graduates starting from zero at almost 40. We are sharing one room and one fan. The tears can’t stop flowing. I am broken, and my brother is broken too. The suffering has gone beyond limits,” he said.
