“The Lagos beggar that crossed my path will think twice next time” — Man recounts encounter at Ikorodu Garage

A man, Yushab Abolore Ayomide, has shared a dramatic encounter with a beggar at Ikorodu Garage, describing how he turned a routine commute into a lesson that left the man shaken and reportedly reconsidering his approach to begging.
The incident occurred earlier this week as the man was travelling to Oshodi.
Frustration turns into confrontation
According to the man, he had initially planned to board a BRT bus but had left the queue due to a missing wallet, opting for mini buses instead.
While navigating the crowded terminal, a beggar began following him persistently, seeking money for transport.
He explained, “I already knew the werey just wan lie collect money. So I gave him audience, and he entered my trap. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, God will handle it,’ but in my mind, I knew I would handle him personally.”
Journey becomes a lesson for the beggar
The man recounted that he paid the ₦1500 fare for the beggar but refused to allow him to alight midway, warning him humorously, “Whether you’ll get it in Oshodi or not, enter this bus now before I remove your teeth.”
By the time they reached Oshodi, the beggar had been visibly subdued and reluctant to thank him, signalling that the experience had left a strong impression.
Incidents like these reflect the daily tensions between commuters and street beggars in Lagos, raising questions about urban safety, empathy, and accountability in public spaces.
