Tambuwal accuses Tinubu, APC of destabilising opposition parties

Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has accused President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately destabilising opposition parties across Nigeria.
Tambuwal, who was featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, alleged that the ruling party has been working to weaken political rivals, despite public denials.
“When you look at what is happening in various political parties in Nigeria today, you don’t need to be told, no matter the amount of denial by whoever, including President Bola Tinubu, that they are not involved in destabilisation efforts of opposition parties. It is incorrect,” he said.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives doubled down when pressed for evidence, insisting, “I am saying, I am not suspecting. They are involved in all of this.”
Since Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), several opposition politicians have defected to the APC. The defections, coupled with internal crises within PDP, LP, and other opposition parties, have heightened concerns about Nigeria’s political balance.
In response, prominent politicians, including Atiku, Obi, former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, have joined forces under a coalition platform within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
It is worth noting that President Tinubu, during the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in July, described the opposition as “a sinking ship,” saying, “It’s not a bad idea to abandon the sinking ship and be absent from a coalition of confusion.”
