Super Eagles suffer heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in AFCON qualifier
Nigeria suffered a major setback in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after Guinea-Bissau defeated the Super Eagles 3-0 in Bissau on Tuesday.
The Djurtus produced a strong performance at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro, scoring once before the break and twice in the second half to claim all three points.

The victory takes Guinea-Bissau to six points from their opening two matches and puts them at the top of Group L, while Nigeria remain on three points.
Dju gives hosts early advantage
Nigeria made a positive start but struggled to turn their early possession into clear chances.
Taiwo Awoniyi had an opportunity in the 12th minute but could not get his effort away, while Ademola Lookman later tested goalkeeper Fernando Embadjé after receiving a pass from Alex Iwobi.
Guinea-Bissau, however, took the lead in the 15th minute.
Franculino Dju received possession on the right before driving into the penalty area and firing a powerful effort beyond Stanley Nwabali.
Nigeria tried to respond before half-time but found the hosts difficult to break down, with Guinea-Bissau maintaining their organisation to take a 1-0 lead into the interval.
Guinea-Bissau punish Nigeria after break
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle made two changes at half-time, introducing Moses Usor and Moses Simon for Frank Onyeka and Awoniyi.
The changes failed to produce an immediate breakthrough, and Guinea-Bissau extended their advantage in the 66th minute.
Captain Mama Baldé collected the ball and worked his way into the penalty area before calmly placing his finish into the bottom corner.
Chelle responded by bringing on Tolu Arokodare for Lookman, while Raphael Onyedika and George Ilenikhena were later introduced as Nigeria searched for a way back.
Ilenikhena almost made an instant impact, but his close-range effort was saved by Embadjé.
Nigeria’s hopes were finally ended in stoppage time when substitute Álvaro Djaló finished a counter-attack into the bottom corner to complete a 3-0 victory.
The defeat leaves Nigeria second in Group L on three points, while Guinea-Bissau have a perfect six points. With only one qualification place available from the group, the result gives the hosts an early advantage in the race for the tournament.
