Super Eagles step up AFCON 2025 build-up with 11 players in camp

Eleven players have now reported to the Super Eagles camp in Cairo, Egypt, as Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Stanley Nwabali were the first to arrive on Sunday, setting the tone for the early phase of camp activities.

More arrivals boost camp numbers

The duo were later joined by Ademola Lookman, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, Amas Obasogie and newly invited Tochukwu Nnadi, taking the initial count to eight.

In the last few hours, Pisa midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Porto full-back Zaidu Sanusi have also checked in, raising the total to 11 players. A further 12 players are expected to arrive on Monday.

First training session scheduled

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) media team, the Super Eagles will hold their first official training session at 8pm local time at the main bowl of the Cairo International Stadium.

Friendly clash with Egypt lined up

Nigeria will face hosts Egypt in a preparatory friendly on Tuesday, scheduled for 8pm Egypt time (7pm Nigerian time).

Both teams are permitted to make more than the usual five substitutions, giving the coaching crews room to assess squad depth ahead of the tournament.

AFCON group schedule

The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.

Nigeria will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania on December 23 at the Complexe Sportif de Fes, face Tunisia on December 27, and conclude the group stage against Uganda on December 30.
