Super Eagles prospect Okonkwo wins MOTM after 11th clean sheet for Wrexham

Arthur Okonkwo continued his impressive season with Wrexham on Friday night, earning the Player of the Match award after helping his side to a 2-0 win over Swansea City at the STōK Cae Ras.

The former Arsenal Hale End Academy graduate produced several key saves to keep his 11th clean sheet in all competitions this season, further strengthening his reputation as one of the standout goalkeepers in the EFL Championship.

Okonkwo shines in key moments

Wrexham took the lead midway through the first half through Nathan Broadhead, before Callum Doyle sealed the win with a late goal two minutes from time.

However, Okonkwo’s performance between the sticks proved decisive.

In the 21st minute, the Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper produced a sharp low save to deny Žan Vipotnik after earlier keeping out an attempt from Gonçalo Franco.

The 23-year-old remained alert in the second half, blocking an effort from Marko Stamenić and later stopping a dangerous free-kick from Ji-sung Eom late in the match.

Super Eagles debut on the horizon?

Okonkwo, who previously represented England U21 national team, has pledged his international future to Nigeria national football team and is widely expected to earn a senior call-up soon.

Across the Championship this season, only a handful of goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets, including Carl Rushworth (13), Christian Walton (12), while Thomas Kaminski, Sol Brynn and Lawrence Vigouroux have all recorded 11 clean sheets this campaign.
